About Amira

I am a fourth-year clinical psychology doctoral candidate at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have worked in hospital and community mental health settings with clients of all ages experiencing a wide range of mental health struggles. My experiences have increased my passion for seeing my clients and all the different facets of their identities and experiences that make them who they are.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends, loved ones, and my cats, watching movies, and traveling.

I work well with adults and couples at various stages in their mental health journey. As a daughter of immigrants, I have an awareness of multicultural factors, the ways they intersect, and how they can impact various experiences. I tend to draw on not only my training but also my personal experiences in my work with clients.

My clinical interests include working with adult individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, identity development concerns, trauma, adjustment, relationship difficulties, and grief/loss.

What I’m like as a therapist:

My priority is that we create an open and safe space in which clients can freely explore their vulnerabilities and make greater meaning out of their experiences. I utilize a strength-based approach to empower the client to be their most authentic selves. I believe transformation and healing are the result of learning and understanding our past experiences and how they shape our present.  I draw on psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, systems, and feminist-therapy interventions in my work. I believe the therapeutic relationship is integral to exploring uncomfortable emotions and relationship dynamics. Through the therapeutic relationship I aim to establish a collaborative approach between myself and the client, fostered by empathy and positive regard.
