About Christina
I am a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and hold a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. I also hold a bachelor’s degree with honors in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern. I participate in research through Northwestern and have active studies and publications in the areas of depression, suicidal ideation, and eating disorders. I come from a Hispanic family (Colombian and Nicaraguan) and, through this lived experience, give significant consideration to cultural factors in my work with patients. In my free time, I enjoy 3D printing, watching movies, and spending time with friends.
I have experience working with children to adults with all mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, trauma, identity development, interpersonal relationships, attachment concerns, developmental transitions (ex: high school, college), eating disorders, OCD, ADHD, and grief/loss.
I enjoy working with individuals who want to build self-awareness or insight through exploration and reflection to create a deeper understanding of themselves, their motivations, and emotions.
What I’m like as a therapist:
As a therapist, I focus on creating a warm, empathic, and nurturing atmosphere that is open and unstructured, allowing individuals to speak about whatever they feel need to address in their lives, history, and relationships. I enjoy reflecting with my patients on how their life experiences have led up to where they are today. Together, we may explore unconscious patterns in behavior, dreams, motivations, relationships, and emotions to create a deeper understanding of oneself and increase self-awareness.
Theoretically, I tend to work from a psychodynamic lens drawing from attachment theories, self psychology, and object relations. I also sometimes work from a solution focused and problem-solving approach with patients who would prefer more short term and targeted work.
