About Amira
I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology here in Chicago. I have worked in hospital community mental health settings and college counseling services with clients of all ages experiencing a wide range of mental health struggles. My experiences have increased my passion for seeing my clients and all the different facets of their identities and experiences that make them who they are. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my friends, loved ones, and my cats, watching movies, enjoying live music, traveling, or playing board games.
I work well with adults and couples at various stages in their mental health journey. As a daughter of immigrants, I have an awareness of multicultural factors, the ways they intersect, and how they can impact various experiences. I tend to draw on not only my training but also my personal experiences in my work with clients.
My clinical interests include working with adult individuals and couples experiencing adjustment difficulties, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, family conflicts, identity development, trauma and PTSD, relationship difficulties, spirituality, substance abuse, and women’s health.
What I’m like as a therapist:
My work draws on psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, systems, and feminist therapy interventions. My priority is creating an open and safe space where you can freely explore your vulnerabilities. This is a space where you can vent, laugh, as well as further understand and make greater meaning out of your experiences. Thus, I use a strength-based approach to empower you to be your most authentic self. This approach can include times of humor and times when I challenge you. I believe transformation and healing are the result of learning and understanding our past experiences and how they shape our present. The therapeutic relationship is integral to exploring uncomfortable emotions and relationship dynamics. During our therapeutic relationship, I seek to establish a collaborative approach, fostering empathy and positive regard.
