About Nathan
I completed my graduate degree at Cleveland State University, receiving my Master’s in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have had the opportunity to work with diverse populations of individuals, as well as varying degrees and forms of psychological distress.
I work well with many different types of people, from varying backgrounds and experiences. Individuals who have a sense of curiosity about themselves and the world around them will likely benefit most from our work together. This is because I believe the strength of the professional relationship and willingness to be self-reflective is crucial when creating positive and sustainable change. The basic psychoanalytic principle of “bringing what is unconscious (thoughts, beliefs, fantasies, and conflicts) to conscious awareness,” is at the core of our work together.
My clinical interests include working with individuals who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, relationships issues (romantic, familial, and peer), grief & loss, trauma & PTSD, men’s issues, psychological struggles in the realm of athletics (professional, collegiate, high school, etc.), and identity problems/identity development.
What I am like as a therapist:
I draw primarily from my psychoanalytic training to inform my practice. I strive to have a warm, empathic, and authentic approach and am generally regarded as laid-back and relaxed. To use a metaphor: I believe my role is to act as a passenger in a car that the patient is driving. I can point out various things I see or offer different routes, but ultimately, I am not the one driving the car. For this reason, conversations do not tend to follow strict guidelines. That being said, I do believe it can be important to challenge each other’s perspectives, by relying on the strong relationship that we have built over time.
